Adaptive
Music Lessons
I have been teaching voice, piano, ukulele, guitar, and songwriting since 2017. As I've grown my teaching practice and my work as a music therapist, I have developed a teaching style that can be described as "adaptive."

While adaptive music lessons are provided by a music therapist and may include therapeutic benefits like increased self-esteem, problem-solving skills, connection, and memory, the primary goal of an adaptive music lesson is music learning. Adaptive music lessons are structured to meet the needs of individual learners. Music learning is certainly the goal, but I focus less on developing prodigious students with perfect technique and more on empowering students to enjoy and create music for a lifetime.

Adaptive music lessons may include:
-
Learning to access parts of your voice so you can more fully express yourself.
-
Learning to find a sense of safety and security in your body through the act of music making.
-
Exploring a variety of music to experience a variety of emotions.
-
Learning to play an instrument with someone who understands that traditional methods of learning can be too challenging.
-
Learning to play an instrument as an older adult with reduced motor skills or memory.
-
Learning to write songs to express yourself.
-
Returning to music playing after an injury or trauma which has inhibited your musicality.
